Traces

The ISA does not have a detailed documented history, the following timeline was developed by tracking the mentioning of ISA or similar international focussed student groups in the Gateway, during the time period 1960-2013.

Traces Timeline

International Students Association (ISA)

1961-1979-1983

On 03-10-1961, the first traceback of ISA's history can be found when sixty-nine student leaders met in Edmonton.

On 18-10-1979, the Students' Union Council gave a grant to the International Students' Association.

On 24-04-1983, we can find the mentioning of the diverse and multi-linguistic nature of the International Students Association. ISA had an office in the 225 Athabasca Hall. 

International Students Committee (ISC)

1973

On 06-02-1973, The International Students Committee election announcement was done in the Gateway. ISC worked to improve the quality of life experienced by international students at the University of Alberta. It used to organize social events, cooperate with national groups, and encourage intercultural connections. ISC had a lounge at 260 SUB. 

International Students' Organization (ISO)

1976-1990

On 23-09-1976, the ISO organized a CABARET in the SU Dinwoodie Lounge.  

On 16-02-1978, we find that ISO had an official policy on TOEFL use. The same year, ISO welcomes new students. 

On 12-02-1980, ISO had its elections. 

On 05-12-1985, ISO had a Christmas dinner to support students. 

On 23-01-0990, the ISO President shared his views on the GSA. This incident shows that ISO had Graduate President thus graduate members.
